[January 26] |
My kid is the cutest damn thing I've ever seen (which is saying something because Apollo was really cute as a puppy, and so is Church). I wasn't sure we'd ever manage to get him potty trained (again!), because he seemed to have it all figured out when he started living here, but then he regressed and I was really worried, but we did it. It was the cutest thing yesterday when he came into the room and told us very loudly that he used his potty, and then he wanted to show us and I didn't even care how weird that would have been last year. It took a lot more work than I thought it would, so it's just the greatest thing that it actually worked. Six months ago, I knew nothing about how to teach a kid to use the toilet but I'm not as clueless as I thought I was.

[December 30] |
Year: 2004 Age: 25 How was your birthday this year? It was bloody fantastic. Moved in with Sam. Think that's probably the best gift I could have given myself. Hey, Sam, how are you going to top that one? Make any new friends? I suppose so. Lose any friends? Not really, unless you count. And how was the world of romance for you this year? Better than I thought it would be. Pretty much ideal, to be completely honest. Occupation: Male prostitute. Residence: 217A, Euphoria Lane Pets: Still have Apollo, and then Sam got Church in March, and we have a two and 3/4 year old too, so I'd say we have 3 pets. Get any taller? No. Unfortunately. Hairstyle for the year? Same as always. Best outfit of the year? Ask Sam. What did you do for New Year's? Last year? I barely remember a thing. What did you do for Valentine's Day? That was when the whole Cupid mess was, wasn't it? I kissed someone else, Sam kissed someone else, and then we made up. The end. What did you do for St. Patrick's Day? Got shitfaced? What did you do for Easter? I went home. Mum made me go to church. Where did you go on Summer Holiday? I didn't take a single holiday this year at all, actually. That should be my resolution for this year: take a bloody holiday. What did you dress as for Halloween? A pirate. What did you get for Christmas? A wedding ring. And a bunch of other stuff. Sam'll kick me for going all mushy here, but the most important thing was knowing Kyle would be staying with us, and celebrating Christmas with the two of them. What are your plans for this New Year? ... Shit. Sam, what are we doing? Who are you going to kiss at midnight? Nate and Braeden, obviously. How do you want the new year to be different from this one? I'd like to have more money in the bank, and to not always worry about that sort of thing. Maybe move into a bigger place, even though I love this one, it feels cramped with a kid running around with two dogs. I wish I could say I'd go back to teaching, but I doubt we could afford that. How do you want the new year to be the same as this one? I don't know if I want it to be the same... there have been a lot of changes, both good and bad, and I don't want the new year to be as up and down.

He's ours.
Well, it's a bit more complicated than that, but long story short: the kid gets to stay with us permanently, provided his real mum doesn't come back. If she does, we'll have to deal with it, but he gets to stay right here where he belongs, rather than going to live with his mum's parents full time. It's cheesy and Sam'll probably tease me for this later (while secretly agreeing with me - don't think I don't know exactly how you feel about this, Sam), but I think this is the best Christmas present I could ask for.
Oh, right, in case everyone's wondering what I'm going on about. Kyle's mum didn't come back when she was supposed to, and her family still hasn't heard, so they tried to get a court order to take him from us since 1) they don't know me (or Sam), 2) they don't trust me (or Sam), 3) he's known them longer than he's known me and they thought it would be more disruptive to have him stay, 4) some rubbish about me not being able to give him a stable home, 5) they were convinced that Octavia would really want him to stay with them (when she told me otherwise). But we fought it and "won," although it was sort of bittersweet.
So that's it. He's fast asleep in new Santa pyjamas with Apollo curled up at the foot of his bed, and he'll probably be up bright and early tomorrow to see the loot Santa brought him. This time last year, I would have never pictured my life like this, but it's pretty brilliant. Happy Christmas.

[December 14] |
This is the best birthday ever, and it's not even mine. Sam's mum is watching the little one tonight, and we still have cake (that I baked!) left over.
Oh shit I think she's wearing her birthday present, I think I should go

[December 08] |
The holiday season is definitely more fun with a two year old running around. But I'm definitely going to be broke at the end of this month. Kids are expensive. But worth it. He's going to be one spoiled kid this year.
Speaking of, who wants to babysit Kyle for a bit on the 14th? I won't even try to be sneaky about this, since we all know that's Sam's birthday. Unless she's dying to go out for drinks with our her mates on the 13th instead?
How boring am I? All I have to talk about these days is my kid.

Warded to Nate:
So when the fuck were you going to tell me that you were getting married?
Excuse me, GOT married?

[November 18] |
Oh fuck.
Warded to Sam:
Guess who I just got a letter from. Hint: no, not from her.

Warded to Sam:
It's been a week and still no word. I asked her parents and they haven't heard anything either. They seem to be worried that something might have happened. I don't know. So now what?

[November 06] |
After yesterday, I've decided that I should definitely write a musical for children. I don't know what it'll be about, but it'll definitely involve friendly pirates and furry dogs and princesses and a giant named Sam.
Or maybe not. I'll stick with my day job. Which I have now. Surprise!

[October 29] |
That medieval festival was fun up until the witch burning. I really hope Kyle doesn't have nightmares tonight.
Hey Sam, let's carve pumpkins tomorrow. And I think we should find a babysitter for Friday night. I want to take the kid out for Halloween during the day, but I think we need some adult time.
